Sarsha was just 16 years old when she found out she was pregnant. She had been living with her grandmother ever since she was a baby, as her own mother had struggled with addiction and was incarcerated at the time of Sarsha’s birth. Sarsha was determined not to follow in her mother's footsteps and give up on her baby like she felt her mother had done to her.

When Sarsha's grandmother found out about the pregnancy, she knew they needed help. She called us here at Esthers Australia. We immediately sprang into action, providing case management and coordination, pregnancy and parenting education, advocacy when child safety became involved, and practical support to help Sarsha prepare for the birth and beyond.

With the help of Esthers Australia, Sarsha was able to navigate the challenges of a young mother. We helped her to overcome the fear she felt around parenting, and talked alot about expectations versus reality, good enough parenting and what this means, encouraged her to work with another service in order to make a plan for finishing school and accessed resources for her and her baby. We also provided emotional support and guidance, helping Sarsha build her confidence as a mother.

Today, Sarsha is back at school and both she and her baby are thriving. Thanks to the support of Esthers Australia and wrap around services, Sarsha was able to break the cycle of poverty that had plagued her family for generations.

Esthers Australia made a difference in Sarsha's life, giving her the tools she needed to succeed as a young mother. We continue to support Sarsha and her baby, ensuring that they have a bright future ahead. Sarsha is grateful for the help she received and is determined to be the best mother she can be.

‘I was scared but you helped me be confident and know I can do this. K is always there

when I need her”
